Aperture is a fully amenitized workspace and research environment in Del Mar, California, which will become the corporate headquarters of Neurocrine Biosciences.
Throughout the campus, COR-TEN steel is featured prominently through planter boxes, landscape edgings, and a quarter-inch steel cladding within the stairwell. Over time, the COR-TEN steel will change from an amber shade to espresso. As the color changes, the steel’s chemical composition forms a protective layer of rust to prevent further rusting, which is an essential quality for this seaside project.
The stairwell area required perfect engineering calculations to install 700-pound plates of COR-TEN steel along four levels. Exact calculations were needed to install the correct fasteners, bolts and attachments to ensure the panels were securely attached.
Another key element of this project is a stainless steel decorative mesh screen from GKD Glass. The 20 ft. X 40 ft. tall screen was seamlessly installed. This project showcases the aesthetic and functional brilliance of COR-TEN steel and stainless steel decorative mesh, offering an inspiring workspace.
