Named the “Sequin Wall,” the hundreds of light interference colored stainless steel panels showcasing the entryway to Westfield UTC in La Jolla are attached on two S/S spindles as hinge points at the top of each sequin square — allowing the panels to pivot with the wind and attributing to the shimmer effect. The special etched steel was sourced from Rimex — the British metal finishers who have supplied the raw materials for marquee cladding projects around the world. Other Rimex metal can be seen on projects such as the Wales Millennium Centre (Cardiff Bay, UK), Crystals Mall (Las Vegas), and Roth Architects Headquarters in Hamburg, Germany.
